The meeting aims to encourage private sector investment in public-private partnerships in establishing a regional hub to maintain an inventory of spare parts and to provide comprehensive maintenance services. It enhances regional cooperation and private sector involvement in the adoption and sustainable use of alternative technologies to replace high-risk radioactive sources used for external cancer treatment. This is an essential activity because nuclear security initiatives in the area of external cancer treatment must be both relevant to the local context and sustainable in approach.

Varian Medical Systems in Switzerland is the primary funder.
