AFRICSIS Represents Africa at Global Stakeholder Engagement Conference on Nuclear Energy

From 26–30 May 2025, the International Conference on Stakeholder Engagement for Nuclear Power Programmes is taking place at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Representing the African Center for Science and International Security (AFRICSIS), Director and Senior Research Scientist Hubert Foy is contributing African perspectives to this high-level dialogue on inclusive and sustainable nuclear energy development.

AFRICSIS is a leading nonprofit dedicated to advancing WMD nonproliferation, disarmament, and security across Africa. With over a decade of experience supporting locally grounded programs and international cooperation, AFRICSIS is committed to integrating science and policy for peaceful development.

Mr. Foy’s participation aims to elevate African voices in global nuclear discussions, particularly around the role of NGOs in stakeholder engagement. During the ‘Flash Talks’ session on 29 May, he spoke on “NGOs and Nuclear Energy: Building Bridges between Governments, Industry, and Communities in Africa,” under the theme of Changing Landscape and Lessons Learnt. His talk underscored how NGOs can build trust, promote policy oversight, and empower communities in Africa’s evolving nuclear landscape.

The conference is a vital platform for strengthening global understanding of stakeholder inclusion in nuclear power programmes. Its outcomes are expected to support efforts in empowering communities through dialogue and promoting equitable access to clean energy, both of which are central to Africa’s development goals.

To stay engaged, follow AFRICSIS updates on social media and participate in discussions on the future of nuclear energy in Africa.
