 ative Technologies to Replace High-Risk Radioactive Sources used for Extern
 al Cancer Treatment in Africa: Establishing Medical LINAC Spare Part and Se
 rvice Hub in ECOWAS\nBACKGROUND\n\nThis one-day meeting will bring together
  a West African audience comprising medical LINAC operators and engineers\,
  radiotherapy departments heads\, and policy- and decision-makers in regula
 tory authorities\, key hospitals\, public health ministry to work out techn
 ical and operational parameters toward establishing a Medical LINAC Spare P
 art and Service Hub in ECOWAS. Representatives from other stakeholder group
 s including device manufacturers\, professional associations\, regional org
 anisations\, or initiatives\, and representatives from select foreign entit
 ies interested in cancer research\, security issues\, and investment in tec
 hnology opportunities will also be invited.\nThe meeting aims to encourage 
 private sector investment in public-private partnerships in establishing a 
 regional hub to maintain an inventory of spare parts and to provide compreh
 ensive maintenance services. It enhances regional cooperation and private s
 ector involvement in the adoption and sustainable use of alternative techno
 logies to replace high-risk radioactive sources used for external cancer tr
 eatment. This is an essential activity because nuclear security initiatives
  in the area of external cancer treatment must be both relevant to the loca
 l context and sustainable in approach.\nVarian Medical Systems in Switzerla
